Calumet County veteran services officer reports $317,201.22 in retroactive awards; survey responses due in April

Michelle Wynveen, PhD, Calumet County Veterans Service Officer, told the Veterans Service Commission on March 18, 2026, that retroactive compensation and pension awards to county veterans total $317,201.22 as of that date. Wynveen said the department is five months into a Client Satisfaction Survey sent to veterans, spouses and dependents and described an "optimistic response rate," with data expected by the end of April when March surveys are returned.
Wynveen also told commissioners she would provide relevant information and a copy of any Federal Register posting before the next meeting concerning a new VA claims rule; the commission did not discuss the rule at this meeting. The report provides a snapshot of recent benefit recoveries and ongoing outreach to measure client satisfaction, which Wynveen said will inform future service priorities.
