Staff updated the commission on recent City Council actions and upcoming administrative items: Council approved the Canyons Planned Development Amendment No. 5 but removed an additional neighborhood commercial pad, leaving the pad in Planning Area 13 as the primary neighborhood commercial site. Community Development Director Donna Ferguson said council asked the applicant whether they intended to build the extra pad; when the applicant said no, council removed it from the approval.
Ferguson also announced council-appointed planning commissioners Stephen Sayers and Dorothy Kent will begin their terms March 1 and that staff will provide an onboarding and training session on March 5. She clarified that park and neighborhood names used in preliminary‑plan materials are temporary and that official naming will follow the city’s park‑naming process after dedication and transfer to the city.
