Supervisor: Woodbury County maintains about 460 flood-control structures; levy option discussed

During committee reports a supervisor said the Soil and Water Conservation Board appreciated the board’s budget increase for a technician and highlighted the scale of county flood-control infrastructure: "We have about 460 flood control structures in Woodbury County," the supervisor said.
The supervisor explained many structures are on 50-year easements and the original maintenance funding assumptions no longer match current costs. Board members discussed whether a special state-authorized watershed levy, levied on agricultural property and used by some neighboring counties, would better align costs with beneficiaries than having the whole county pay from general funds.
