Van Buren County OKs $2.015M in TAP/SRT funding for Bentonsport pedestrian bridge

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors on June 23 authorized the county to accept federal and state recreational trail funds for the Historic Bentonsport Pedestrian Bridge Rehabilitation project. On motion by Supervisor House, seconded by Supervisor Meek, the board authorized Iowa DOT Agreement No. 25-TAP-110 to receive $1,612,000 from the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and $403,000 from the State Recreational Trail (SRT) program.
County Conservation Director Richard Daugherty reviewed the Iowa DOT Federal‑Aid Agreement and answered board questions before the vote. The board also adopted Resolution #06-23-2025A designating Mark Meek (Supervisor Chair), Lisa Plecker (County Auditor), and Richard Daugherty (Conservation Director) as authorized signatories for contracts and agreements associated with the rehabilitation project. The resolution passed by roll call: Meek—Aye; Waugh—Not Present; House—Aye. The authorization allows project contracts and grant‑related documents to be executed by the designated officials so the rehabilitation work may move into procurement and construction planning stages.
