Consultant outlines check valves, gates, pump upgrades and costs for outfalls

"If it's most of the pipes, most of the outfall pipes aren't that big, about 24 inch or less. And those would be about 3,000, $4,000 for one of these. But you get up to the big sizes, 48 inch, you could be looking at close to 40 or $50,000," Jeffrey Hiscox said, noting that very large valves or gates can require high opening pressures and may be better served by different controls or pump strategies. Council members discussed coordinating responsibility with county and state partners where roads and A1A are involved.
