Lantana council accepts clean audit, files FY2023–24 comprehensive financial report

The Lantana Town Council voted unanimously April 14 to accept and file the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2024.
Director Caplan, presenting the report, said the auditors rendered an unmodified (clean) opinion and highlighted fund‑balance components. "We came in at 14,400,000 in unassigned," Caplan said, noting that some of that balance shifted into committed projects and matching grants. He outlined roughly $5 million in planned or in‑process projects including drainage and a seawall replacement that accounted for changes in unassigned balances.
Auditor David Kaplitsky of Grama Associates congratulated staff on producing a clean audit and said the town answered auditor questions thoroughly. Council members asked about broader fiscal risks including proposed state changes to sovereign immunity and potential effects on premiums; Caplan and the auditor said higher liability caps could increase insurance costs, while the town's unassigned balance helps provide flexibility.
Council member Mason moved to accept and file the report; the motion carried 5–0. The town will publish the ACFR and proceed with budget workshops this summer as staff refines project timing and funding sources.
