Town adopts county mitigation plan to remain eligible for federal disaster funding

The council adopted Resolution R02-2025 to approve and adopt the Palm Beach County 2024 revised Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS). Town Clerk Kathleen Dominguez explained that the LMS is a multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan required by the Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000 for a jurisdiction to remain eligible for federal disaster relief funding.
Dominguez said the town has participated in the county LMS since 1999 and that the 2024 revisions ensure compliance with applicable regulations while coordinating responses to hazards such as hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding and extreme heat. The town attorney reviewed the resolution for legal sufficiency and staff recommended approval. The council moved and adopted the resolution unanimously.
The adoption preserves the town's eligibility to seek federal mitigation and disaster funds through the county's multi-jurisdictional framework. Council did not attach additional conditions or amendments in the meeting record.
