"I don't have a lot of confidence without a modification to the turnaround plan," Segura said, explaining the recommendation follows end‑of‑year data and continuing staffing shortages.
Administration proposed that 55% of Paredes students be reassigned to Bailey and 45% to Mendez, citing operational capacity at both receiving schools and recent MAP and STAR data that showed declines at Paredes even as other middle schools made gains. The superintendent said the district has discussed requirements with the Texas Education Agency and is "confident" the agency will work with the district on an amendment, but could not give a date certain for TEA signoff. The board was told a vote to approve the amendment is scheduled for the July 30 board meeting; if TEA rejects the amendment the administration said it would revert to the previously approved restart plan and continue monitoring outcomes.
