The board approved a job description for a Principal, Early Education Center (Alice Norman) after lengthy discussion clarifying that the action was limited to the job description and did not authorize funding or FTE.
Shay Borges introduced the item as "just a job description" prepared in advance of a possible future allocation of a full‑time principal for expanded preschool/SDC cohorts. Trustees voiced concerns about cost—board members referenced a previously discussed $500,000 estimate for a principal plus supporting staff—and asked whether less costly interim solutions (shared administrators, principal on special assignment or YCOE partnership) were feasible.
Director Rivera Smith explained the purpose of approving the description now: it creates a ready job specification so the district can post and hire quickly if and when the board later approves allocation of FTE/funding. Rivera Smith said explicitly: "This is not going to be posted ... This is about approving the job description so that the board makes the decision to move forward with the FTE, then we're able to immediately post and start moving forward." The board approved the job description by voice vote and asked staff to return with additional options and budgetary impacts.
Trustees requested a follow‑up briefing with Assistant Superintendent Autry Streak (returning from leave) to review interim possibilities and legal/supervisory implications of non‑district designees. Staff said the item will not be posted to EdJoin until funding is allocated.
