Schools report M-STEP testing, upcoming events and activities

Administrators from district schools provided a series of brief reports at the April 21 meeting. Chris Marana (ARES) reported the start of M-STEP state testing, summer school registration, 5th grade field trips to the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and Bay Cliff Health Camp, an annual children's art exhibit at NMU, an author visit, and Family Night planned for May 21, 2025. Griffin Lawson (ARMS) reported M-STEP testing, the 3rd annual talent show on May 23, and high school orientation for 8th graders. Cliff Fossitt (WHS) reported standardized testing wrap-up, Prom on April 26, the HOSA competition in Traverse City, and a potential driver’s education start date of May 19.
Nathan Longton said special-education staff had run an interview workshop with Michigan Rehabilitation Services and MARESA and scheduled preschool screening for May 15, 2025. Jake Skewis (Athletics) summarized spring sports and noted all-state basketball honors and the MHSAA classification change from Class B to Class C; Eric Warlin (Transportation) said the department is preparing for spring sports and field trips.
