Library, Read Foundation and Museum of Aviation announce summer programs and GEAR Lab opening

Houston County's library system opened registration May 20 for a Vacation Reading Program running through July 11; the Read Foundation announced a Summer Reading Academy June 1–3 and the Museum of Aviation invited the county to a ribbon‑cutting for its new GEAR Lab.
Houston County Library Director Judith Malone told the Board that registration for the library system's Vacation Reading Program opens May 20 and the program runs through July 11; she said more than 2,700 students participated across the county's three libraries last year.
During public comments, Shirlin Johnson‑Granville described the Read Foundation's Summer Reading Academy scheduled June 1–3 for grades 6–8 (8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) at First Baptist Church in Warner Robins. Dan Rhoades, President and CEO of the Museum of Aviation, invited the Commission to a ribbon‑cutting for the Museum's new GEAR Lab and thanked funders Peyton Anderson Foundation, Flint Foundation and Sigma Defense.
Chairman Perdue and commissioners expressed appreciation for the educational and cultural programs and thanked event sponsors and partners.
