Houston County approves six home‑business special exceptions, tables one application

The Board granted Special Exceptions for six home‑based businesses (window cleaning, furniture flipping, lawn care, hot sauce & seasoning, laser engraving, lawn care) and tabled one application for industrial maintenance; County Attorney warned that neighborhood covenants may still restrict activity.
Chief Building Inspector Tim Andrews presented Special Exception Applications #2927 through #2933 at the May 5 meeting. After a public hearing in which most applicants were present and no opposition was voiced, the Board approved six applications with staff stipulations and tabled application #2930.
The approved applications are: #2927 Jaime Gonzalez (Window and Exterior Cleaning); #2928 Marva Drake (Furniture Flipping Business); #2929 Jimmy Davis (Lawn Care Business); #2931 Robert Sconyers (Hot Sauce & Seasoning Business); #2932 Maria Gaiss (Laser Engraving & Personalization Business); and #2933 William Sandefur (Lawn Care Business). Application #2930 (Alex Guyse, Industrial Maintenance) was tabled. County Attorney Tom Hall advised all applicants that Board approval of a special exception does not override private neighborhood restrictive covenants that may prohibit business activity.
Approved applicants were instructed by Mr. Andrews to complete a business license application in the Commissioner's Office at the County Annex as the next step.
