The Houston County Board of Commissioners voted 3-1 on April 21 to concur with the City of Perry’s annexation request for 19.70 acres on Airport Road, Tax Parcel 000310 033000, which included a requested zoning change from County R-AG to Perry RTH. The motion, made by Commissioner Talton and seconded by Commissioner Byrd, carried with Commissioners Talton, Byrd and Robinson voting yes and Commissioner Gottwals voting no.
During public comment, Clay Nodes spoke against the annexation specifically because of the rezoning portion of the request. County Attorney Tom Hall advised the board that if the County votes to concur the City of Perry will control subsequent actions for the property and that the County “does not have legal grounds to object to the annexation as presented.” The board’s concurrence followed that legal guidance and the board’s prior history with the application, which had been previously considered in 2025.
