Road & Bridge Supervisor Josh Hinch told the Wabaunsee County Commission on April 27 that continued rain is causing countywide problems, including water running across roads and multiple bridges and culverts needing repair. Hinch said crews will be occupied with cleanup and repairs for weeks as water recedes and underlying damage becomes clear.
Commissioners discussed a failing bridge on Little Egypt Road. They agreed to focus scarce resources on high-traffic structures that are vital to county traffic flow. Because Little Egypt Road is not a through-road, the commission agreed that property owners would still have access from either end and that replacing the bridge was not currently a priority for the county.
Hinch did not provide a firm timeline or cost estimate for repairs during the meeting; commissioners asked staff to continue assessments and prioritize critical structures.
