Houston County approves multiple home-business special exceptions, denies taxi service application

After a public hearing on April 7 the Houston County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a package of Special Exception applications for home-based businesses and denied one application for taxi service.
The board approved Special Exception Applications #2907 (Tyler & Hannah Mackey, Dumpster Rental), #2913 (Melissa Stone, Mobile Mechanic), #2914 (James & Ashley McMahon, Telehealth), #2915 (Paul & Melissa Clark, Lawn Care), #2916 (Leslie Sannerman, Cleaning), #2917 (Bryan Ulloa, Woodworking & Crafts), #2921 (Kristie Whisler, Handmade Jewelry & Home Décor), #2922 (Alfredo R. Batista Sauri, Church for Gran Comision Inc.), #2924 (Valerie Martin, Web Design & Business Marketing), and #2925 (John Rich III, Specialty Firearms Sales (Broker)). The Board denied #2910 (Lee D. Ramirez Alvarado, Taxi Service).
County Attorney Tom Hall told applicants that approval by the Board does not override private neighborhood covenants that may prohibit commercial activity, and that applicants should check covenant restrictions even after receiving Board approval. Chief Building Inspector Tim Andrews reminded approved applicants to file for business licenses at the Commissioner's Office. The motion carrying the approvals and the single denial passed unanimously.
