Airport terminal nears completion; county gains weather feed and grant closeouts

Airport staff told the board May 5 that the new terminal building is largely complete and in use, with furniture deliveries nearly finished and tie-down paving expected to be complete in days. The airport manager said grant-funded projects—including three recently closed grants and the installation of three-phase power—are finalized and that the terminal now provides a camera feed to the National Weather Service at Wakefield to improve local forecasting.
The airport representative noted that a private developer (Mr. Barber) is funding additional taxiway extension work and that the facility is intended as a community asset available for other organizations to use. "I view that as a community asset... I welcome other organizations to come in and utilize the facility," the airport representative said. Board members asked staff to clarify use processes and confirmed the contractor-funded taxiway work benefits both the airport and future hangar development.
