Vernonia-area fire chief seeks partnership with schools, announces levy proposal

He commended the district's fire science program as "an absolute excellent program" and said the department often attends school events as part of community engagement.
Brody told the board the department will place a May ballot measure seeking a 78¢ per $1,000 property-tax increase to fund staffing, equipment purchases, and a training facility. He also said the department recently received a federal award (noted in the transcript as roughly $242,000) for new air packs but lacks funding to maintain or fill them.
Board members thanked Brody and explored cooperative events and volunteering opportunities between the department and the district.
