County staff said the Sept. 11 meeting will include a video of the Nine Eleven Memorial Stair Climb and remarks from Fire Chief Williams, and that the historic courthouse will be lit in observance of the anniversary.
"We're gonna play that video," Stephanie Birmingham, strategic communications, said when describing county announcements planned for the Sept. 11 meeting. Birmingham also said about 20 county firefighters will take part in the stair-climb event.
A county commissioner urged colleagues to allow time in the Wednesday meeting for ceremonies, noting an early-morning firefighters' program at the Firefighters Museum and an Honor Flight and governor appearance later in the day. The commissioner asked that the meeting stay short so members representing Fire District No. 1 can attend: "I plan on being there for that," the commissioner said.
The announcements also include recognition of Suicide Prevention Month and a scheduled appearance by Joan Tammany of Comcare, county communications said. The county asked commissioners to consider how to incorporate the commemorations into the formal Sept. 11 agenda so officials can both conduct business and attend memorial events.
