The Vernonia SD 47J School Board on Tuesday approved the district's 2026 budget calendar, a schedule staff said will allow the board to adopt the budget before the June 30 statutory deadline.
"Move to approve the 2026 budget calendar as presented," a board member said when making the motion; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Finance staff explained the calendar builds in three weeks between the first budget committee meeting and the next review so community members and board members have time to examine materials and ask questions.
Board members and staff said the timing responds to typical year-end work and unusual payment timing this year ' for example, earlier ESD service payments and one-time software purchases affected December-to-January reports. Chair noted the calendar aims to culminate on or around June 11 so the board can meet other statutory deadlines.
The board also discussed outreach to recruit citizen budget committee members and plans to present more detailed monthly revenue-and-expenditure reports in coming meetings. The motion passed by voice vote; no recorded roll-call tally was entered into the public record during the meeting.
