Chris Winkler, Daviess County Highway Supervisor, briefed the commissioners on a package of state and federal grants that the highway department secured in 2025 after unsuccessful 2024 applications. He said the Bridge 95 project carries an 80% federal / 20% local split for an estimated $2.7 million project, and the guardrail work is a safety grant at 90% federal / 10% local.
Winkler also summarized broader grant receipts: "Daviess County has received a little over $10 million at a 20% match meaning the county has paid $2 million and received $8 million in grant funding from the CCMG grant," and the county has received roughly $12 million in federal aid and safety funds with varying match percentages. He said RFPs have been sent, Letters of Interest will go to a scoring committee, and the county must be under contract with a consultant by Aug. 1 to secure the funds.
