Chris Labrum, speaking for the county building-code staff, briefed the commission on three agenda items asking to set public hearings for adoption of 2024 model codes. Labrum described the stakeholder-review process and said the State Fire Marshal reviewed overlapping chapters of the commercial code; he told commissioners that "we did not see very many changes" in the local amendment package and that the stakeholder committee had carefully reviewed the codes.
After questions about outreach to trades and a request to provide commissioners the detailed amendment packages in advance, the board voted to set public hearings for Oct. 9, 2024 at 9 a.m., and authorized publication in the official county newspaper. The motion was approved by roll call. The county will publish notice of the hearings and return with the detailed amendment packages and a staff briefing ahead of the hearings.
