Community member urges board to pause coach-evaluation rewrite pending more research

At the start of the regular meeting public-comment period, community member Staci Miethe urged the board to pause its proposed rewrite of the coaches-evaluation policy and seek further review. Miethe said the policy language could allow subjective evaluations and asked the board to "really look at the language setting expectations for coaches as some of the words can be subjective." She also said extensive evaluation work had been done previously and suggested the rewrite might duplicate existing tools, calling additional review "a waste of time money and energy" if it repeats current practice.
Board members recorded the comment and later asked staff to circulate a revised draft. Director Neal Bond asked the board secretary to send the revised draft to board members and said he would like the item on the May agenda for a first reading; Director Mark Simonsen suggested inviting the athletic director to the work session for additional input.
