Sweetwater County commissioners unanimously adopted the fiscal year 2026 budget at a special meeting on June 26, 2025, after a brief presentation from Rebecca Romero, an accounting specialist. Commissioner Richards moved to adopt the budget resolution and Commissioner Jones seconded; the board voted unanimously with all five commissioners in attendance.
Romero told the board, "So this is the 2026 budget. It's ready for adoption, which reflects all the approved changes and the priorities discussed throughout the budget process," and described the plan as focused on "responsibility, service, and long term planning." The chair opened a public hearing on the proposed budget and, seeing and hearing no comments from attendees or online participants, closed the hearing before the vote.
During discussion the chair noted that a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) that had been tabled at a prior meeting was not placed on the agenda for the July 1 meeting and said the agenda will be amended next Tuesday so the board can remove the COLA from the table and take action. After the vote the chair thanked Romero, department heads and staff for their work on a difficult budget year; the meeting was then adjourned.
