Select Board weighs Transfer Station access as highway grants fund Packer Road work

Clinton Woolley, presenting the Highway and Transfer Station update, said 2026 grant funding brought Packer Road into compliance and that Sawyer Hill Road is next for scheduled work. Jeff Chase reported that he has posted a Hortonville Road paving RFP and contacted firms directly; the board approved moving retreatment funds to cover part of the Hortonville work (see separate article on finance).
The Transfer Station inspection required a number of actions but imposed no fine, Mr. Woolley said; he recommended keeping the burn pile closed because it is difficult to monitor. Board members debated whether to reverse an earlier decision to close open construction and metal containers. Mark Turco said residents use the containers but worried about inappropriate materials being left and the risk of a fine; Jeff Chase pointed out the open containers currently account for roughly half the Transfer Station budget and that sticker revenue does not cover full costs. Stephen Michel objected that closing the containers penalizes most residents. The board stated it will maintain the closure decision unless residents petition the Select Board to revisit it.
