The Patrick County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to approve an easement in front of the sheriff's office for APCO's Mayo River Station project after a presentation and follow-up discussion with APCO representative Bailey Mann. Mann said APCO is upgrading the transmission line from 69 kV to 138 kV and needs a new substation footprint; the company is seeking easements on properties owned by the county, the Economic Development Authority and the Board of Supervisors.
Supervisors pressed APCO about the line's proximity to the Mayo River Rail Trail and asked whether APCO could site the substation on APCO-owned land across the river. Mann said engineers noted that the opposite bank's rough terrain and limited maintenance access were drawbacks but that APCO would bring the board any feasible alternatives. Mann gave a construction timeline for the portion discussed, saying construction is expected to start "in the beginning of 27."
Chair moved to approve the easement in front of the sheriff's office, a motion that was seconded and carried on a unanimous voice vote (Chair called for Mister Kendrick, Mister Cox, Mister Wood; all voted aye). The board asked APCO to return with engineering feedback about changes to the alignment to reduce impacts to rail-trail recreation areas.
The board's approval covers the specific easement presented for the sheriff's-office parcel; APCO committed to follow up with county administration about any alternate alignments and further details.
