Applicant says Firefly Point could boost local vendors, stresses small‑scale operation

Andrew Freeman, the applicant and property owner, told the commission he and his wife bought the property because of its scenic setting and have renovated the barn for occasional family and private events. Freeman said he has hosted small gatherings on the site and operates the on‑site house as an Airbnb; allowing occasional paid events would help offset the high costs of ownership.
Freeman described the site's attributes — water, power, field parking and a walkable approach to the barn — and said he does not plan immediate additional development within the watershed buffer. "We're not asking to put up condos or anything like that," he said, and added the family has no current plans to build a bridal suite inside the protected area. Freeman also noted local spending from prior rentals and service hires (porta‑potties, cleaners), which he said would bring economic activity to county vendors if events expand.
Freeman stated he supports the staff conditions and is willing to work with county departments (health department, sheriff's office, VDOT and fire/EMS) to ensure compliance and safety prior to regular operations.
