The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors entered a closed meeting June 9 to discuss personnel matters related to the county administrator vacancy and to consult with legal counsel on current litigation and contracts. The motion to enter closed session was made by Supervisor Paul Stimpson and seconded by Supervisor John Newman; the motion carried with one member absent.
After returning to open session the board adopted a certification required by Virginia law (Section 2.2-3712) stating that, to the best of each member's knowledge, only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed and that no action was taken in closed session. The closed session authority cited included VA Code § 2.2-3711.A.1 (personnel) and § 2.2-3711.A.8 (consultation with legal counsel).
