Board approves teacher flex-hours MOU; policy 701 gets first reading

The Kenyon-Wanamingo School Board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Kenyon-Wanamingo Education Association (KWEA) that revises how the district uses an extra workday for teachers. Superintendent Beth Geese explained the agreement is intended so that the additional eight hours are used more meaningfully (for IEP meetings, curriculum adoption and similar work) rather than scheduled on a single, specific day.
"We had an extra workday. We would like to better use that work day... making them more meaningful for the teachers," Geese said. The board approved the MOU by voice vote with no opposition. The meeting also included a first reading of Policy 701 (establishment and adoption of budget), which will return for subsequent readings as part of the board's standard three-reading process.
