Director Gillingham told the council that the Friends of the Opera House (SOWFA) committed $20,000 annually for three years (2026-2028) specifically to underwrite the new position's salary and benefits; staff said they expect to recruit midyear and anticipated a small 2027 budget shortfall to be managed in future budgets.
Separately, the council approved an amended budget for historic-window replacement at the Opera House after bids returned at $579,000 versus a previously budgeted $350,000. Director Abare said the higher cost reflected the specialty historic windows (75 units) and related labor; the city will proceed with a contractor-sensitive approach and coordinate with landmarks review where required.
