Patrick Madigan of Goldfinch Health presented the "Billion Pill Pledge," a multi‑component program the company said reduces post‑surgery opioid prescribing and supports patients with remote RN follow‑up, academic detailing for providers, 'prepared for surgery' toolkits and safe disposal (Deterra bags). Madigan said Wyoming's prescription rate is 43 opioid prescriptions per 100 persons and that Sweetwater County's prescribing rate "is 73.8 opioid prescriptions for every 100 persons," a rate the presenter described as substantially higher than the statewide average.
Madigan said the program, typically funded with opioid‑settlement dollars, has shown a 60% reduction in postsurgical opioid prescribing and a 92% reduction in refill rates in prior pilots. Commissioners discussed applying settlement funds and coordinating the program with the county’s recently formed opioid committee and local hospital. Commissioner Jones offered to contact the hospital to explore next steps.
Goldfinch Health offered to meet the county's needs‑assessment team and said it can tailor a proposal; commissioners indicated they will follow up through their opioid committee.
