County backs joint resolution to add Wilkins Peak mountain‑bike trails to interstate signage

Representatives of the Sweetwater Mountain Biking Association asked the board to support a joint resolution to ask the Wyoming Department of Transportation to replace interstate community interest signs at Exits 89 and 91 to highlight Wilkins Peak trail system in addition to the local museum. Charles Whitaker, the association's president, described the trail system’s 20 miles and 14 trails and framed the signage as a tourism driver that would bring travelers off the interstate.
Whitaker said the association has applied for a Travel & Tourism grant to pay the sign replacement fee (YDOT estimates $1,000–$6,000) and will fundraise if the grant is not awarded. Commissioners approved the joint resolution unanimously and asked staff to ensure the updated resolution includes signage for both exits.
