Commissioners reallocate museum funds to detention-center washer, approve IT payroll transfer

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners approved two budget amendments on May 20 that transfer existing county appropriations instead of increasing the county’s total budget. Accounting specialist Rebecca Merrill told the board that the museum handrail project could not be completed and staff recommended transferring those unspent dollars to the detention center’s facilities line to purchase a new washer.
"So we found out the handrail project at the museum is we're not gonna be able to complete that. It's impossible," Rebecca Merrill said in explaining the recommended transfer to the commission. After a short public hearing with no speakers, the commissioners approved Resolution 25‑05‑CL‑02 by unanimous vote.
The board also approved Resolution 25‑05‑CL‑03, which transfers line items within the IT department — reducing operating and increasing payroll — a move staff said would not affect general‑fund reserves. That resolution likewise passed unanimously after no public comment was offered. Both actions were handled as line‑item transfers; no additional tax or new appropriation was requested.
