During the public comment period, Chaney Fitzgerald described attending the district through freshman year before moving to online schooling to accommodate rodeo competition and asked the board to allow her and a friend to walk with this year's graduates.
"I'm here today to respectfully ask for the opportunity to walk in the Yamhill Carlton graduation ceremony with this year's graduating class," Fitzgerald said, explaining that online enrollment was chosen so she could continue high‑level rodeo competition while maintaining her education. Fitzgerald asked the board to consider the request for her and a teammate who competes in rugby.
Superintendent said staff would follow up and walk Fitzgerald through the process, noting there are steps to take and some administrative requirements to confirm. No formal decision was made at the meeting; staff will contact the commenter about next steps.
