District plans hard‑wired fume extraction for CTE welding after alumni donation and consortium grant

Superintendent said the district received a family donation intended for the metal shop and that the district also has a grant from the Mid Willamette Education Consortium to support CTE welding booths. "I think we're up to, I don't know, 7 or $8,000 that they've donated towards that," she said, and described a plan to use donated funds, the grant and district contributions to install a hard‑wired fume extraction system and welding booths next summer.
District staff told the board the portable filtration units previously used were noisy, bulky and ineffective; the district moved a primary dust extraction unit outside and installed bridging ductwork to improve evacuation. Trustees endorsed following the staff plan and asked for cost estimates to bring back with the consolidated facilities list.
