Commissioners reviewed and approved a multi-part HR package and emergency-services incentives after extended discussion about workload, retention and market comparables.
HR requested multiple reclassifications across the department including moving some coordinators to specialist/manager roles with a 5% adjustment and moving select positions from 37.5 to 40 hours weekly to reduce overtime. Commissioners questioned market comparables and asked that countywide classification studies continue; the board approved the package after discussion and votes (one motion recorded an opposed commissioner).
To address 9-1-1 staffing shortages, the Department of Emergency Services proposed a three-phase incentive for the admin team (a $1,000 immediate increase, $2,000 at reorganization conditional on team metrics, and a further $2,000 next July if metrics hold) and a $0.50/hour uplift for certain telecommunicator trainees working floor duties; the board approved those incentives and a one-time bonus of $250 for full-time and $125 for part-time telecommunicators who worked from May 1 through the meeting date.
Commissioners emphasized the need for transparent metrics, budget monitoring and periodic countywide studies so adjustments remain calibrated to function and market.
