Fiscal director: county revenues and collections tracking ahead of last year

Janelle Fries, the county's fiscal director, presented the May budget performance update to the commissioners. She said the general fund has recognized $49,100,000 in revenue so far this year, about $4,500,000 more than the same period last year, and that tax collections total $44,900,000 of a $48,600,000 budget (92.3%).
On expenditures, Fries said general-fund spending is $23,400,000, or about 39.7% of budget through May, which she described as in line with expectations. Countywide revenue stands at $81,000,000 through May and countywide expenditures are about $52,000,000 (roughly 37% of budget). Fries highlighted stronger-than-expected investment income as a contributor to revenue performance and noted capital spending remains relatively low early in the fiscal year.
Commissioners thanked Fries for the report and noted that current trends support the county's fiscal position heading into the rest of the year.
