Daggett Commission delays Dutch John Airport pavement project, will rebid later in year

The Daggett County Commission decided April 21 not to award bids for the Dutch John 2026 pavement preservation project and to notify bidders that the county intends to rebid the work later this year.
Chair Matt Tippett said the commission would "not gonna proceed with that project and those bids at this time and thank them for their efforts," and added the county intends to rebid in the summer or fall after further budget discussions and when additional aeronautics funding information is available. Commissioners and staff cited timing concerns, ongoing work by crack-sealing contractors, and the benefit of coordinating with preliminary pavement-survey results expected in about a month.
Staff also noted the county will evaluate whether to pursue funding through the Community Impact Board (CIB), matching funds, or use county budget resources. The motion to not award and to notify bidders passed by voice vote.
Commission staff committed to check with Utah Aeronautics to confirm that delaying the award and rebidding later this year will not jeopardize any funding opportunities.
