Parents volunteer to help amid substitute and supply shortages; board cites liability concerns

Board members thanked parents and said they appreciate offers to help, but the vice president raised legal and liability questions about having parents fill roles that typically require background checks and fingerprinting. Trustees said they will consult with the new law firm and the superintendent about appropriate safeguards and whether a volunteer program can be structured to comply with district policy and state law.
The board asked parents to sign the contact sheet so administration could follow up and promised to report back.
