Mentor on the Lake council authorizes mayor to join CDBG program

The Mentor on the Lake City Council voted unanimously to authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with the Lake County Board of Commissioners to participate in the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, and declared an emergency to allow immediate execution.

Clerk read the ordinance title aloud before the vote: "An ordinance authorizing the mayor of the city, Mentor on the Lake, to enter into an agreement with the Lake County Board of Commissioners to participate in the urban entitlement community development block grant CDBG program and for the utilization of funds made available by the housing and community community development act of 1974 as amended and declaring an emergency." After a motion to suspend the rules and a second, the council approved suspension and passage on a roll-call vote with all members voting Aye.

City officials said the move will allow the city to access CDBG funds through Lake County's urban entitlement program. Councilors did not debate program specifics during the meeting; staff indicated the ordinance follows statutory language and that projects requiring the funds will be brought forward in subsequent agenda items or memos.
