Council approves 20-year extension for Kiwanis Park telecom tower lease, city to receive $15,000 one-time payment
Summary
On final reading the council approved Ordinance 25-1000 to amend the site lease for the telecommunications tower at Kiwanis Park, extending the lease term to July 31, 2059 and obtaining a one-time payment of $15,000; staff said the change should make colocations easier and allow additional monthly rent for future antennas.

The council approved Ordinance 25-1000 on final reading to amend the site lease for a telecommunications tower located in Kiwanis Park at 2345 Adams Street.
"Staff is recommending approval of an ordinance to provide for an amendment to the existing site lease agreement," Mr. Hansen said, explaining the tower owner asked for a 20-year extension because the short remaining lease term made it hard to attract colocating antennas. Hansen said if the amendment is signed by Feb. 15 the city will receive a one-time payment of $15,000 and would continue to collect monthly rent on additional colocated antennas.
Council members voted in favor on final reading; the clerk recorded the roll-call vote as Hicks yes, Dennis yes, Miller yes, White yes, Cherry yes and Cheeseman yes. A council member asked staff for current revenue figures from the tower; Hansen said he would provide a council report with those numbers.
