The Villa Park Commission moved to remove two applicants from its police final eligibility lists and to advance a lateral candidate after brief presentations from department leaders.
Deputy Chief Brandon said, “The only update we have for this meeting is, I spoke with candidate number 3, Logan Nardi, and he took a job in Leiden, and he has to be removed from our list.” Commissioners then approved a motion to remove Logan Nardi from the final eligibility list at his request by voice vote.
The commission also approved a motion to remove candidate number 12, Benjamin Baker, from the police final eligibility list at his request. Both removals were handled on the floor and approved after the motions were seconded and the board voted “Aye.”
Commissioner Bill moved to establish a lateral hiring eligibility list and to place Joel Holler as the number-one candidate; the motion was seconded and adopted. The board then authorized the police department to begin a formal background investigation of Joel Holler for the police officer position.
Police leadership said the moves are preparatory steps to fill vacancies and reduce anticipated overtime costs after expected retirements in early 2027. “Once we are completed with the background, then I will get all these folks regarding the conditional offer and then we'll finish up the other stuff,” the chief said.
No dollar amounts or hire start dates were specified at the meeting. The actions were procedural approvals to modify eligibility lists and start required background checks; final hiring remains contingent on successful completion of those checks and any conditional-offer steps.
