Board adopts Wit & Wisdom as district K–8 English language arts curriculum

The board approved the district’s recommendation to adopt Wit & Wisdom (K–8), Geodes (K–3) and Foundations (TK–3) following a committee review, norming sessions and public preview. Dr. Wilde described the committee’s work—teacher, classified staff, administrators and parents participated in norming and evaluation—using the IMET rubric to assess alignment to standards, foundational skills and knowledge‑building. "This is the vision statement for a high quality literacy instruction... every student will experience rigorous, evidence based literacy instruction that is rooted in foundational skills, text complexity, and knowledge building opportunities," Dr. Wilde said.
Staff said the adoption is for eight years and includes pricing negotiations, teacher professional development, and a three‑year implementation roadmap. The board approved the action by roll call (5–0), and staff said materials will be available for preview at school offices and that parent letters and communications will explain module texts, field trip suggestions and family discussion prompts included in the curriculum.
