A Canterbury Court resident told the council a proposed solar installation near his home has neighbors worried about construction timing, property values and whether applicable zoning allows the project.
"A company from Alpha, Illinois ... literally my backyard," Glenn Bussey said, explaining residents were "very angry about the situation" and asking the council to look into zoning definitions that might permit solar farms or associated agrivoltaic uses such as sheep grazing. Bussey said he was unsure of the project's status and urged the council to become aware of the issue before digging begins.
Council members acknowledged the concern and signaled they will re-examine zoning. "I support solar energy, but the points concerning their points that they're making ... I would sure like to see this, be re examined," one council member said during closing remarks, and another commended the residents for participating in local government. The mayor and other council members noted housing needs for the area and asked staff to determine what authority the city has to address the proposal.
The record shows a variance or commission meeting was expected to discuss related zoning matters; residents said they would continue to follow up with the council. No formal action was taken during the meeting beyond council members requesting further review.
