The Galesburg City Council approved a $79,081 Phase 2 engineering agreement with Hutchinson Engineering for the Lake Storey multiuse path project on Dec. 16.
Mr. Hansen explained the second phase will continue from the end of Phase 1, constructing a path from South Lake Storey Road and Woodblock Road north along U.S. 150 to connect to the existing path on the north side of Lake Storey. He said the ITEP grant will fund 80% of the Phase 2 engineering work, leaving a local match responsibility of $15,008.16. “It is anticipated that construction of the project will begin in late 2025 or early 2026,” Hansen said.
Council members expressed support for the project’s recreational and connectivity benefits and approved the agreement by unanimous voice vote. Staff said the city issued a request for qualifications, received five responses, and selected Hutchinson Engineering based on scoring criteria.
