Galesburg council names regional airport for Harold W. Timmons

The Galesburg City Council voted unanimously Dec. 16 to name the Galesburg Regional Airport the Harold W. Timmons Galesburg Regional Airport, honoring the longtime aviation leader and founder of Jet Air Incorporated.
During the meeting the chair read a resolution that outlined Timmons’ aviation credentials, his service as the fixed-base operator at the Galesburg airport, and his induction into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame in 2011. The resolution states: “The Galesburg Regional Airport shall be named and officially referred to as the Harold W. Timmons Galesburg Regional Airport.” The council approved the resolution by a 7–0 roll call vote.
Harold Timmons addressed the council after the vote, thanking city officials, staff and the community for their support across 55 years. “I want to thank the council, the city administration, the community of Galesburg…for the 55 years that I've been there,” he said, describing cooperation between Jet Air and city airport workers that kept the facility available around the clock.
Council members and staff framed the action as recognition of long-term civic and aviation contributions and said a formal celebration at the airport is planned in the spring. The resolution takes effect following passage and approval as read at the meeting.
