Council restores five-day abatement period for tall grass and weeds

An ordinance amending Chapter 94 to reduce the time allowed for abatement of tall grass and weed violations from 10 days back to 5 days passed on final reading. Staff said the 10-day period adopted in 2022 allowed grass to grow excessively before enforcement action; notices are issued when grass reaches 12 inches and five days better addresses prompt abatement.
City Manager Hansen told the council the change would take effect at the first of the year to coincide with the growing season following winter. The ordinance was approved by unanimous roll call.
