Council adopts $100 fee after 10 non-emergency lift-assistance calls

An ordinance amending Chapter 93 to establish a fee for non-emergency mobility-related 'lift assistance' calls passed on final reading. City Manager Hansen explained staff recommended keeping the first 10 calls per individual per calendar year free and charging $100 per response thereafter to discourage repeated non-emergency requests.
Hansen said the fire department responds to many non-emergency mobility assistance calls and that staff do not expect to collect substantial fee revenue; rather, the charge is intended "just in an attempt to maybe change behaviors for a few that are using this a great deal." The council approved the ordinance by roll call (7 yes).
