The recreation committee reported that it will take responsibility this year for setting up the Veterans Memorial, with city staff (Tyler) cleaning and prepping the site and committee volunteers placing crosses and flags ahead of Memorial Day. Councilmembers also discussed park maintenance needs, recommending removal of three dead trees and replacing two with species better suited to shade and maintenance needs; members discussed installing a pipe at the root ball for watering and protecting young trees from deer. The committee also relayed equipment requests from the city shop, including a mechanics tool set, a gas-powered asphalt saw to reduce paving damage when digging, an extra riding mower, and battery-powered weed eaters to reduce fuel/maintenance costs. "They have no way to cut asphalt... This way, they could skirt where they wanna dig by cutting it 1st and then remove it," a committee speaker said when explaining the asphalt saw request.
