Council OKs ETSB-funded renovation to convert Public Safety Building upper floor into dispatch center

City staff presented plans to renovate the upper level of the Public Safety Building to house the public safety dispatch center. Mr. Hansen said the Knox County Emergency Telephone Systems Board selected Valley Construction as the lowest responsible bidder for demolition/renovation work at $1,755,000 and Hussar Abatement LTD for asbestos abatement at $41,000.
Hansen told the council "The ETSB is responsible for the full cost of both bids, and there's no impact to the general fund." Council members asked about space and floor location; staff said the work moves dispatch from the main floor up one level into the space formerly used as the jail and that the project will free up space on the main floor.
The council voted 7-0 to approve item 254001, allowing ETSB to proceed with its project in the city's building.
