The Galesburg City Council voted unanimously to adopt the FY2025 budget and classification salary schedule, approving a spending plan that City Manager Mr. Hansen said totals $78,000,000 in expenditures.
Hansen told the council the budget is balanced and uses approximately $8,000,000 in fund balances, primarily for capital projects, and includes a 4% cost-of-living adjustment for AFSCME, PSEO and exempt and non-represented employees. "That's $78,000,000, by the way, being put to action for the betterment of our community," Mayor Schwartzman said during closing remarks.
Council members praised staff for producing the plan. Hansen said the work spanned a lengthy process with a September work session and additional updates in October and November, and that bond abatement will be considered at the Dec. 16 meeting. The council voted 7-0 to approve the budget and salary schedule.
The budget package includes revenues and a capital plan described by staff as covering priorities carried forward from 2024; staff stated there are no position eliminations in the proposed plan. Next steps identified by the city manager include implementation tasks in 2025 and the December bond-abatement item.
